"Tainted Energy" - Lynn Vroman

Tainted Energy (The Energy Series, #1)Tainted Energy by Lynn Vroman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Title: Tainted Energy
Author: Lynn Vroman
Publication Date: April 2015
Genre: Young Adult/ Fanasty

My Rating: 3 Stars

I very graciously received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to divide this review into two parts:
1) What I really liked
2) What I found unappealing

The reason for this is because all in all, this book just wasn't my cup of tea and I don't want to turn off other readers who might really enjoy this book just because it wasn't for me. Let's begin.

First of all, is that cover just not amazing? I mean seriously, it's absolutely enthralling and makes you really want to just buy the book so you can display it on your bookshelf. Yes, I'm a cover whore. So sue me.

The actual idea for this story is very unique and not quite like anything I've ever come across before and that have the author huge points in my mind. I've been going through a dark fanasty phase so the more sinister aspects of this book completely drew me in and had me intrigued. Honestly, the very best part of this book was from the 65% mark until the 90% mark.

If definitely recommend this book to young adults who enjoy different worlds and fanasty stories with conspiracies.

Now, the main reason that this book just want for me was the way the author wrote it. For me, the execution of the storyline and the world building and even the characters relationships gave me whiplash trying to follow it. It was pretty confusing for me and honestly, downright annoying with how back and forth everything was.... Especially character interactions. It just wasn't something I found intriguing like some of these other reviewers but rather a bit like being the passenger in a student driver's car. Stop, go, stop, wait wait, go, stop. That pretty much sums it up.

My only other real issue was that I was pretty bored with the first half of the book. It doesn't just a little bit too much time on the 'young adult this is my angst filled life' and not on really explaining the different worlds and story building.

So all in all, I guess it boils down to a great idea with not enough push behind it's execution.

'Legacy of Kings' - Eleanor Herman

Legacy of Kings (Blood of Gods and Royals, #1)Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Title: 'Legacy of Kings'
Author: Eleanor Herman
Publication Date: August 18, 2015
Genre: Fanasty
My Rating: 2.5 Stars

I was very kindly given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

The author created an intriguing world that held promises of colorful characters and an epic story. Unfortunately, those promises quickly dried up into a mountainous heap of long winded boredom.

It was with extreme effort that I continued to read and finish this story. Honestly, I had extremely high expectations and I was severely disappointed in this stories 'lack of'. The entire story felt so stuck. The development of the plot was minimal and at times, I became downright confused thinking I had somehow missed a page. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how all of a sudden we were at a certain point in the book.

My rating of this book greatly reflects on the fact that I absolutely hated the characters. They were unoriginal at best, and at thier worst, they were cookie cutter shadows of the traditional roles that typically make up a high fanasty novel. You know what I mean. It's a typical cast of characters wearing the hats of the vengeful one, the struggling ruler, the evil one, the one on a doomed misguided mission, the lover, the piner, so on and so forth. Oh... And on a personal side note, what the heck was up with those names? Seriously? I get trying to be unique but at the same time, maybe if that much thought had gone into the actual story rather than character names, I would have enjoyed the book.

All in all, this one was just less than thrilling for me and missed it's mark.

"Ugly"- Margaret McHeyzer

UglyUgly by Margaret McHeyzer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Title: "Ugly"
Author: Margaret McHeyzer
Publication Date: October 26, 2015
Genre: Dark Young Adult/New Adult

My Rating: 4 Stars

I was graciously gifted with a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

This book broke my heart and tore me down to the very bottom of my soul. It was a haunting emotional force of nature.

It hurt to read this book. It hurt to feel the way I felt while I read this book. It was emotionally scarring to live through Lily's pain and it was positively the most beautifully broken chaotic wreckage of a novel that I've ever read.

The author did a fantastic job writing something so dark and something that is still so often pushed to the corners and hidden in the shadows.

Domestic violence is one of the hardest issues for most people to grasp and understand and the author put a blinding spotlight on its very real and very dark and desperate truth.

It can happen to any of us. We could be your neighbors. Your friends. Your coworkers. Your boss. Your daughter. Your sister. We could be anyone. We could be Lily.

This book is a sucker punch to the chest. It will capture you and draw you in until you feel as of you are drowning, and the only way to save yourself is to keep reading.

"Mind Of The Phoenix" - Jamie McLachlan

Mind of the PhoenixMind of the Phoenix by Jamie McLachlan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

Thank goodness that's over.

Yup, that is the only thing I'm thinking as I FINALLY get to the end. If this book had not been a read to review book that the publisher had kindly given me a copy of, it would have gone on my did not finish shelf at 14%....

.... And at 32%... 40%... 64%....

You get the idea.

It was just too much of everything and not enough of anything. Make sense?

I just... I don't know...

I'm just not willing to spend anymore time on this book. For me, it was awful.

"The Truth" - Jeffry W. Johnston

The TruthThe Truth by Jeffry W. Johnston
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual Rating: 2.5 Stars

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly just didn't find this book speaking. I was completely drawn in by the description and I unfortunately found myself immediately bored with it.

While I definitely believe that many other people will enjoy this book, it most definitely wasn't for me, hence the middle of the road rating.

However, if your are like me, and have read books from author Jodi Picoult and desire a more mature writing style, then this book definitely isn't for you. It definitely had all the makings of 'a page turning, holy crap where did that twist come from and I can't believe that just happened!' novel.... Except that it just didn't live up to its potential. And yes, the clear downfall was the actual writing. It left me wanting, and not in a good way.

I believe that a younger crowd of readers would find this book engaging and chilling, but it just wasn't happening for me.

"Twist Me" - Anna Zaires

Twist Me (Twist Me, #1)Twist Me by Anna Zaires
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh my holy smokes.

I can't even....

.... I'm speechless....

I feel so guilty for absolutely loving this book. It's so completely twisted, dark and downright terrifyingly seductive.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It even days dark erotica on the cover, but of my, trust me when I say that that doesn't even begin to cover it.

This is a deliciously maddening dark delight that will leave your cheeks burning and your mind reeling.

I just can't get the right words out to describe this one.

It's a sinfully dark book that will definitely twist you up inside and leave you breathless for more.

"Fault Lines" - K.C. Stewart

Fault Lines (Adirondack Pack, #2)Fault Lines by K.C. Stewart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Actual Rating more like 3.5 Stars.

It's no secret that I really enjoy the books that K.C. Stewart writes, so it should come as no surprise that I enjoyed this book. It is the second book in the series and while I definitely enjoyed the first one a bit more, I found myself excitedly turning the pages.

With great characters, a climactic storyline, and phenomenal paranormal elements; this series is a definite must read for all of us who enjoy the genre.

"The Beastly Tales 1 -3" (Compete Series) - MJ Haag

Devastation (Beastly Tales #3)Devastation by M.J. Haag
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This Review is actual for all three books in the Beastly series.

Book One : 5 Stars
Book Two : 4 Stars
Book Three : 5 Stars

Overall Rating : 4.6 Stars

Reader Beware!!!!

This is most definitely not your typical beauty and the beast tale. You will not find any hints of Disney's romanticized happily ever after in these books.

This is a much darker tale of magic and horror all rolled into one phenomenal retelling of 'a tale as old as time' and I absolutely freaking loved it. I lived and breathed this series. I consumed these books like a dying man gasps for air.

This series is dark and twisted and horribly devastating. And let's not forget the raw romance and the primal nature of the sexuality rubbing rampant in this series. This series took our most primal instincts and urges and showed how we rise above them. It really shows what separates man from beast.

If you're looking to fulfill your craving for a darkly reinvented twisted fairytale, look no further!
